Getting the Perfect Foundation

I have, along with many others, tried countless brands of liquid, mouse, mineral, etc… etc… FOUNDATION. Is it really that hard to find a color that matches your skin tone? A texture that you’re comfortable with? Ingredients that won’t ruin your skin? I used to think it was near impossible, but after testing different brands and learning more about the proper ways to apply it, as well as what tones work best with your personal skin tone, I realized that it was much, much, easier than most women think. Hopefully these tips will help you choose a foundation that you can be satisfied with!
Where to begin
Know your skin type
- This is vital in selecting a foundation that will work best for you! Do you have dry, oily, normal or combination skin? Pick the one you have and pick a foundation that works with that.
Picking out the right color
- Try to find a shade that best matches your skin tone, then pick up the shade that’s one darker, and the shade that’s one lighter. If you test all three out you are more likely to have accurate results.
- Try to pick out a shade that has a yellow undertone, as they match most skin tones.
- If you have very pale skin pick out a foundation with a cool pink undertone.
- The best place to test foundation is your face, not your hand or wrist! Your skin color is not the same all over your body.

- This is just extra help, and there is no need to be embarrassed! These beauty professionals are here to help you, it’s their job!
Foundation for your skin type
Dry skin
- Pick a foundation that also provides moisture!
- Stay away from powder foundations; dry skin and powder usually don’t work well together. They can make your face appear even dryer or cakey.

Oily skin
- This may be a bit obvious but try and stay away from oil based foundations.
- It is hard to find a non-oil foundation with heavy coverage, most are sheer to medium but with concealer you should be ok!

Normal skin
- You’re pretty much safe using any sort of foundation.
- You still should be a little cautious and test out different ones before you commit.

- This is a little harder to pinpoint what direction you should take, as you have various elements to your skin.
- Perhaps owning two different foundations wouldn’t be such a bad idea? One for days when your skin seems dry and the other for oily days!

Tips
- One thing to look at is the ingredients, whether or not it contains oil or an SPF. You want to keep your skin looking healthy as well as flawless!
- Whether you use a powder, liquid, or cream foundation is really all up to you. Different ones contain different ingredients, but it really is a matter of personal preference.
- If you really don't need foundation but would like a bit of tint or glow, try a tinted moisturizer!
- SPF is important!
