Basics for Healthy Skin

Pretty much everyone wants gorgeous skin. Advertisements for foundation and concealers can promise you perfect skin, but makeup can only do so much. To look your best, your skin needs to be healthy. This article covers how to treat your skin, and ways to make it healthier from the inside.
Morning & Evening Routines
Consistently following this routine every morning and evening will make your face cleaner and healthier.
- Cleanse your face with your regular face wash. Antibacterial face wash can help acne-prone skin, but if it starts to overdry your skin, go back to the regular kind. If your skin is really dry, cleansing lotions that contain more oils or emollients that soften the skin are recommended.
- Rinse the soap off with warm (not hot) water.
- Use a gentle toner to help restore the pH balance of the skin and to remove any lingering traces of makeup or soap. If you have super oily skin, you can try out an astringent, which has a higher alcohol content than toners to remove more oil.
- Once a week, use an exfoliant on your face.
- End the routine by applying a moisturizer. Moisturizers are available for various skin types.
- If it's morning, wait about ten minutes afterward to apply sunscreen. Use one with an SPF of at least 15. Some foundations and face tints have sunscreen already in them. You really want to keep your skin protected from the sun. Besides cancer, too much exposure can lead to premature aging, hyperpigmentation, free radical damage, and collagen and elastin deterioration.
You always want to be gentle with the skin on your face. If you're too aggressive with products, or use products not made for your face, you can irritate the skin and cause it to age faster and dry out.
Nutrition
Cleaning and caring for the inside is just as important as the outside, maybe even more. If your body is filled with healthy nutrients, it has nicer tools to use when it makes your new skin cells. Eat more fruits and vegetables that are darker and more colorful; they have more vitamins in them. Vitamin A maintains and repairs skin tissues. Vitamins C and E act as antioxidants and protect the skin from the sun's ultraviolet rays and pollution. Also (of course) drink at least 8 glasses of water, get at least 7 hours of sleep, and don't smoke! Smoking ages your skin faster and steals water from your body.
If you take gorgeous care of your skin as early as possible, your skin will stay pretty even longer. If you're hiding behind your foundation, you might even get to the point where you feel your skin is prettier without any makeup!
